38 weeks

I'm now 38 weeks pregnant! She should be weighing about 7 pounds and roughly 20 inches long. Fetal development is nearly complete as she tends to a few last-minute details like shedding the skin-protecting vernix and lanugo. She's also producing more surfactant, a substance that prevents the air sacs in her lungs from sticking to one another once she starts to breathe. Most of the changes this week are small but important: She’s continuing to add fat (so she can take advantage of all those photo ops by sporting a round, cute baby look!) and fine-tuning her brain and nervous system (so she can deal with all the stimulation that awaits her once she makes her entrance into the world).

We went to the doctor Monday and everything looks great! My blood pressure is great, my FH measurement is 37 inches, and I haven't gained any weight! Yay! And her heart rate is steady in the 140's. Our next appointment is next Friday... unless she decides to come before then!

We're going on a tour of the hospital tomorrow evening which I'm really looking forward to! Our birthing classes are at Raleigh WakeMed so it'll be nice to see where we'll actually be delivering! Speaking of birthing class... we had our all-day intensive this past Saturday. We learned the steps of delivery, different ways to manage pain, WakeMeds procedures and what's available to us during the whole process. My favorite part was learning all the different relaxation techniques... and getting to practice them! Jonathan learned a lot about how to be the supporting partner, what to say, where to massage, make sure I change positions, etc. I highly recommend the class for first time parents! Plus it's great hubby-wife time before the baby comes.

Symptom-wise my ankles and feet are very swollen by the end of the day and I think I've graduated to the waddlers! And Jonathan and I haven't been able to sleep in past 8:30 in days! I'm assuming it's God getting us ready for her schedule.

Things to check off the to do list include: Packed our hospital bag! Finished washing onesies, blankets, sheets and other odd's and ends. Touring the hospital (tomorrow). And getting a few last minute things!

We're excited and starting to countdown until the big day- whenever that may be! I'll leave you with this photo of Jonathan, after 3 hours of putting together the stroller, swing, and pack 'n play!

Isn't he cute?!

Brittany you sound like you are doing amazing! I felt the exact same way about our birthing class, SO HELPFUL and great for our hubby's to learn how to be supportive during that entire process!!
